Soybeans are ALWAYS in season
in Costa Rica. Our tropical climate allows us
to turn one cycle of soybeans en 85 to 95 days
from group one to group seven. Our lighted areas
allow us to extend the cycle as long as necessary.
Semillas Olson S.A. grows soybean projects in
3 main microclimates. |

| |
UPALA - NORTHERN ZONE
|
|
|
The ideal bean climate in
Upala allows us to grow large and small projects
and export quality seed for replant in the U.S.
or Canada. We harvest from March through early
May to get our best seed. Heavy rains make harvest
difficult in other months in Upala. |
| |
|
LA
GUACIMA - CENTRAL VALLEY |
|
You are off the plane and
in the field in La Guacima near Costa Ricas International
Airport. We grow soybeans year around in La Guacima
which is ideal for Lighted Projects, Generation
Advance, single plants or small increases. Our
high altitude means cooler nights and sunny mornings
which improve seed quality, harvesting any time
of year. |
| |
|
LIBERIA - NORTHWEST COSTA
RICA |
 |
|
Dry pacific in Guanacaste
province. We can turn generation advance projects
faster in Liberia because of heat units received.
Our best months for soybeans are May through January.
We use Liberia for our first generation of two
generation projects because we can harvest 5 -
8 days sooner. Our second generation we plant
in Upala.
Generation
1: October or November planting - January
harvest.
Generation 2: January
replant - April harvest. |

TRANSGENIC PROJECTS
|
Roundup ready or liberty
link soybeans are not authorized for general use
in Costa Rica. To cover costs of additional government
supervision we charge $50.00 per acre, or fraction
of an acre planted. |
NOTE |
We assume the production
risk for increases, which often yield 25 to 50
times the weight of seed planted. In the event
that a soybean variety reacts unfavorably to our
environment, you will be billed at a rate of 10
times the weight of seed planted. Otherwise you
will be billed only on the weight of seed returned
to you. |
